Recovery Stories

The Twinsburg Stray 11-3-21

On the run

On the run

On the run

This scruffy stray had been out for weeks roaming Boston Hts - Twinsburg, OH; he was unapproachable.

On the run

On the run

I spotted him on Darrow Rd in the early morning of 11-4; I slowly followed him down Enterprise Pkwy where we played cat/mouse for about 2 hrs.  With the help of some fast-thinking employees from Matheson Tri-Gas, Inc, we were able to corner him once he entered an open area of their facility and the garage doors were quickly closed.

On the run

He was released from Summit Humane to Remi's where he was taken straight to our Vet.  Due to the severity of his skin infection along with fleas & matted burrs, he was shaved;  his ears had multiple hematomas that had been there for quite some time along with a severe ear infection.  He received all the necessary medical care, vaccines & was microchipped.

On the run

Scruffy aka our Twinsburg Stray healed in time and was adopted to a loving family just in time for the Holidays!

Stray Dog -Brooklyn, Ohio Metroparks

Remi's PR was contacted by Brooklyn ACO & Metropark Rangers of a lost/stray German shepard that was unable to caught.  Remis arrived on scene later that evening only to be watched by this curious  girl as we set our trap.

    Oden's Capture 8-29-21

Oden went missing after a recent outing with his owner near Coonhound Club Rd in Medina, OH.  The property owner reached out to Remi's & we set up our trap/surveillance that same day.  While there, we could see Oden in the field close by exploring the area.

Oden explored for about an hour & finally found his way into the trap; the downpour was so heavy we

It only took an hour for Oden to find his way into the trap, the downpour was so heavy we could barely see.  The homeowner, Vicki, used her front loader to haul Oden/trap safely back into her secured garage!

Oden was returned to owner where he enjoyed a much-needed nap after his long ordeal.  Thank you to Vicki for reaching out to Remi's and trusting the process!

    The recovery of Dobby 6-18-21

    Dobby's Story

Dobby escaped his kennel in April '21 from Angels for Animals in Canfield, Ohio.

Consistent at frequenting the trap . he enjoyed pulling out the sheet for easy access to the food!

After two months of being on the run, Dobby  decided to make a soybean field his residence, nearly 9 miles from the Shelter he escaped from.  After two failed attempts at trapping him, Remi's was called on June  16th and made the 80 mile trip down to Salem  with our 6 ft trap.

    Getting close! Patience!

    Success

Remi's made the journey back to Salem on Friday, June 18th, we were on the road at 6 am.  The trap was baited with hot food & a very tempting knuckle bone from the butcher was hung at the back of the trap!  After a tense stand-off between Dobby and the bone for nearly 45 minutes and him inching in/out each time getting closer to the bone, he finally went for it and was safely recovered at 10:15 am!!

The Recovery of Sophie- June 25th 2021

Sophie was rescued from living outdoors of an acquaintance in West Virginia; she had only been with her new family for almost 10 days when she escaped.

Sophie, only weighing 5 lbs., eluded all efforts for 13 days.  She utilized the train tracks and could be seen walking on them  daily as she traveled back/forth from Skateland  on W. Erie Ave in Lorain to Lakeview apartments.   Sophie was often spotted frequenting Garwell's where she was eventually trapped.

Finally on June 25th at 3:30 am Sophie was safely recovered by Remi's PR!  Her owner was immediately notified and drove to the scene to pick up her baby!  This tiny girl , flirting with wild animals, hawks/eagles, trains, traffic & the elements of weather was quite the challenge!  We were so happy to be able to return Sophie to her family!

The unbelievable story of Brutus 3/16/21

    • 3-16-21 - RPR received a call from the Metroparks Ranger, Laura Beth, of a stray dog that was being a challenge to corral.  Remi's got there within an hour to find the stray just walking around the same area not allowing  anyone to approach.  With permission, RPR set up our trap along with surveillance and everyone went about their day.  I decided to stay and  keep watch; he would walk away but al

RPR knew this would take some time and he just needed to feel more comfortable and hungrier as the KFC awaited.

This story I am about to tell left us speechless and sad with many emotions.  Our little stray was trapped around 5 pm and he had more tags than a military ID with (3) numbers, a name tag , a harness & collar &  his rabies tag. We called all three phone numbers and no one answered.   We decided to carry him back to the car & load him up.  Finally a call back from one of the numbers and a lady answ

Remi:  The face of Remi's Pet Recovery.

July 2016- Remi went missing following a recent placement into a new home.  She was quite the resourceful and clever young lady and was able to elude traps and securement methods for months.  Remi was successfully brought to safety through the persistent and patient efforts of Vanessa Petrosky, founder, and a few dedicated volunteers.  After months of rehab and trust issues, Remi was adopted by a wonderful couple who understood her needs.  She continues to thrive and now wears a GPS tracking collar!

    Broadview Heights - 3/24/21

This stray had been roaming the Briarwood Golf Community for a couple days when Remi's received a call from a concerned homeowner in that development.  We arrived on-scene that evening with some hot KFC and set a trap  based on his routine and within 15 minutes he appeared and it wasn't long before the KFC was smelled and he was safe!  Broadview PD picked him up; he was not claimed after his stray hold went to the Cuyahoga County Shelter where he  found his forever family. - April 2021

    Remi aka Twinsburg Stray

This girl was lost after a recent adoption in Northfield/Oakwood village in February '21.   This was quite the journey of highs/lows as Remi's trailed her for 3 long weeks going back/forth from Northfield to Macedonia to Twinsburg to Oakwood back to Twinsburg as this scared gal was dangerously flirting with I-480, Darrow Rd, Ravenna Rd, E. Aurora Rd & high-traffic areas.   After much anxiety,  the community of Twinsburg came together and understood the importance of letting her settle into a quiet place.  On our journey, we met a wonderful guy,  Brian Delphia, who without hesitation jumped on board to help with whatever Remis' needed. We kept track of all sightings,  texts, calls, and posts and set the trap up based on her travels. After moving the trap 3x we decided to move it back to 1st area.  Debbie Oring and I drove up Sat 3-6 and headed down Maple street and to our surprise,  there she was sleeping in the sun right smack where we originally had the trap 🥴.  I snuck behind the house and threw chicken out which she ate..once she left I put more food out and we then headed to get the trap from the other location.  As we made our way back, there she was eating the food we had previously left then she decided to sunbathe!  We rustled her feathers a tad so she would quietly wander off;  we then hurriedly set up and parked across the street to watch & wait.  One hr. later her nightmare was over!

We took her to the shelter and the next day her owner went in &  signed her over.  This once frantic stray, with her new name of REMI,  is now recovering and adjusting to her new life with Brian Delphia 😉❤ who went to the shelter and legally adopted her!

    Banjo- 11/28/2020

After a recent placement into a new home, this lab mix found a way to escape his fenced-in yard leaving him running through the streets of Parma, OH in an unfamiliar area.  After a few days of no activity, he was spotted in the back lot of  Stone Garden Marble & Granite sleeping under a semi.  Remi's immediately set a trap and monitored surveillance.  All was quiet for three days so we moved the trap farther down where he had been spotted going through the fence flirting with the  I-480 fence line.  Eventually, he found his food source but was extremely timid and hesitant so we knew this was going to be a process; our biggest challenge was getting the owner to 'trust the process'.  Banjo decided at 12:30 am on a work night that he was going to get that Beef N Cheddar that he was eyeing all evening.  He was safely recovered and transported home to his anxious and grateful family!

    Pudge

Pudge went missing following a recent adoption.  Unfortunately for Pudge, she found herself scared & alone on a dangerous section of the exit ramp off a major highway hiding in the brush.  Remi's jumped into action and set a trap monitored by 24hr surveillance; Pudge was recovered the next day and was safely transported to her new home by Remi's.

    Junkyard stray aka Stella

This stray beagle had been living in the Junkyard in downtown Cleveland for at least 8 months that we know obviously having litter after litter. Based on her travels and talking with businesses in the area, we started leaving food out in different locations and knew that she was sleeping next door in a car impound lot.  With permission, Remis set a trap along with our 24-hr surveillance camera & we were able to observe her get acquainted with the trap;  she was safely captured the next day.  This timid girl, now named Stella, stayed in our director's home for a few months to recover & adjust to life indoors.   She was adopted in Dec 2019 and now shares her home with another K-9 sibling in Lakewood.

    Bella, Strongsville, Ohio

Bella escaped her family's home and wandered about Strongsville in frigid temperatures dodging all efforts of people trying to help her.  Remi was called by a concerned resident who found Bella one morning sleeping on her porch.  The homeowner & Remi's worked together to bring this girl safely back home within 24 hours.

    Charlie

Dec 2020- After a recent placement, Charlie escaped her new home as she was just arriving to go inside.  This gal took up residence in a quiet neighborhood in Mayfield, OH.  After numerous sightings, Remi was called and knew we needed to get our large kennel out there.  With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we set up the kennel and started the process of leaving food every morning & evening all while monitoring our surveillance camera.  With the help of Charlie's new dedicated owner who never gave up, a week later she happened to be in the right place at the right time and saw her headed in the direction of her food source.  She placed herself behind the fence where we had a long rope attached to the kennel door- Charlie went directly to the back of the kennel to eat and her owner was able to pull the kennel door shut!  Charlies' ordeal was over!  I am happy to report that Charlie is thriving in her new home and learning to trust thanks to her new mom!

    Recovery Stories

Oct 25th '20 - This stray was found by the Metroparks Ranger and they called RPR for a little assistance in securing this playful, yet challenging boy.  Officer Brad kept him close at bay by playing ball/fetch with him until Remi's arrived.

It didn't take long and one less stray dog is off the streets of Cleveland!  Thank you Officer Kelli, Officer Brad and Metroparks Ranger Laura Beth for trusting Remi's Pet Recovery.  He was transported to the Cuyahoga County Shelter.

2021 - Just a normal day with Remi's Pet Recovery as we search and track a stray dog.

    Recovery Stories!

This big boy had been living in the woods for  three months  from Dec 2019 to March 2020 near LaGrange, Ohio.  RPR was contacted & headed out to  investigate.  We were able to set eyes on this stray and were surprised to find quite the big boy ; we knew we needed a bigger trap so headed back home to load up the big kennel.  With the help of local volunteers, we were able to set up and start our su

ARGUS!  The Lorain shelter released him after his stray hold to RPR where he was held/observed for another 30 days and was not claimed.  This lucky Dane was adopted by our Founder/President, Vanessa ,who has a great love , knowledge and respect for this breed.

    Recovery Stories= Trust the Process

9-11-20-After a recent adoption, 'Hope' escaped on 9-7 and was running throughout the cornfields in a campground in Medina county.  RPR was finally able to safely recover Hope at 2 am on September 11th 21.

Unfortunately on 9-14, Hope escaped a second time shortly after she was returned to her owner.  It took RPR a little longer this time but our persistent dedication prevailed, along with (2) volunteers, Dawn & Debbie, Hope was secured again on September 28th 2020 .

Due to some severe injuries, Hope was taken to the local shelter and the next day her owner did what was best for Hope and surrendered her.  We all worked together and RPR secured a spot with a breed-specific rescue in Maine!  Thanks to RPR, our President Vanessa & volunteer  Debbie, transported Hope to Maine to begin her new life

    Eden Dec 2018

Eden was found by a dumpster in Lorain County, Ohio discarded like a piece of trash & in horrendous condition.  RPR was contacted and we were grateful to be able to help & immediately took him into our care.

The healing begins - everything was a first for Miss Eden - from learning to go outside, walking on the leash, the scary noises of the outside world to car rides!

Eden loved her favorite DVM Dr. Liz at Gateway Animal Clinic and literally ran & jumped into her arms!  She was so loved by all the staff!

The transformation won Eden a spot in the 'Best Transformation Category' in Petfinder's best of the best content 2019.

She currently lives in Toledo with her family who is no stranger to RPR along with her brother Tucker; she is thriving !

    In Memory of our Valor

August 2018 - Valor came to us from the Ashtabula APL as one of the worst neglect cases they had ever seen.  The horrific photos and condition of his frail, neglected body didn't even begin to tell his story.

Despite our valiant efforts of specialists, dermatologists, surgeons, testing, and the countless medications, Valor's frail body could no longer fight any longer.  After 5 beautiful months of being in our care, Valor crossed peacefully surrounded by those that loved him dearly.

Valor was loved by all who met him and he quickly became everyone's favorite!  His eyes told a story; a story only he & I knew.
